Welcome to Hawks Class

Dear Hawks,

Welcome back to a new and exciting school year! I hope you have had a wonderful summer holiday and your child is ready to work hard this academic year. For this half term, we will be focussing on a book called ‘Where my Wellies Take Me…’ by Michael and Clare Morpurgo and writing their recount of a local walk. A topic web, which has all the key vocabulary, objectives and other key dates, for this half term.

Below is a reminder about our expectations that we expect from our children at home on a weekly basis:

Weekly spelling and times table tests- practice up to 3x a week- On Fridays, children will have their weekly spelling and times table tests. It is very important to practise their spellings and times table frequently for short periods. Five minutes an evening is better than 20 minutes the evening before the test. Using online games like ‘Hit the Button’ or is very beneficial too.

Reading regularly and recording in their Reading journals- SIGNED by a parent once a week. The school will check twice a week to ensure children are reading frequently. All reading can be recorded. Rewards will be available to children who read on a regular basis.

Grammar and Mathematics Home Learning- Each week, all Yr. 5 and 6 children will be given two activity sheets to complete at home (one being mathematics related and the other being related to grammar). This needs to be handed in on a Friday,

COATS + OLD SHOES/ WELLIES- Please can your child bring a coat and an old pair of shoes or some wellies into school as we will be going for some nature walks through the village and there are some messy lanes.

PE- Primary Sports and Education is continuing to provide our sports coaching and will be delivering PE sessions (Tag Rugby) on a Friday. An additional PE lesson (Orienteering) will take part on a Wednesday morning. PLEASE ensure your child comes to school wearing the correct PE kit otherwise they may not be able to take part. Below is the acceptable PE uniform for our school:
• Plain white PE t-shirt (or a school embroidered t-shirt ordered from the office);
• Plain black/blue shorts (during colder periods children can wear plain black or blue jogging bottoms);
• Suitable PE trainers (not plimsolls) and;
• No jewellery is to be worn during PE sessions and will need to be removed before being able to take part in PE.

YR. 5/6 RESIDENTIAL- If you have any concerns about the Year 5/6 residential, which is from Monday 11th October, please speak with me.
